Natural Wool Properties
Wool regulates body temperature, keeping kids warm in cold weather and cool in hot weather. This is because wool has a crimped fiber structure that creates air pockets that hold warmth and breathe to allow airflow.

Wool naturally keeps skin dry by absorbing moisture and then releasing it into the air before it can pool on the skin.
Unlike cotton which can contribute to hyporthermia when cold wet fibers sit on the skin, wool keeps kids safe by keeping them dry and warm
Believe it or not, wool rarely needs to be washed!
Wool resists odor and bacterial growth because it pulls moisture away from the skin and releases it into the air before bacteria can grow and cause odors and lanolin creates an acidic environment, inhibiting bacterial growth.
Airing your wool pieces after wearing allows the wool to release trapped moisture and odor molecules. Wools exterior cuticle scales prevent dirt from embedding deep into the fibers. Simply brush it off!
When to wash? Infrequently. Only wash wool when it smells or is visibly dirty!
Wool actively absorbs, transports and releases moisture released by the skin to keep us dry and comfortable.
The exterior surface of wool is also water repellent!
Wool perfect for kids who are potty training or otherwise have a spill. You might notice that droplets can simply be blotted with a cloth before they become embeded in the wool!
Merino wool is soft on the skin because the fibers are much finer than coarser wool and bend while you move instead of poking the skin which causes itching. As you wear wool, the fibers relax and feel even softer.
ManyMonths uses a 21.5 micron merino wool which is soft and slightly more durable than a base layer
Wool is naturally stain resistant because lanolin, a natural waxy-oil, acts as a built in shield against liquid-based spills. Simply blot with a cloth before it has time to sink in!
Wool resists dirt and debris due to its shingle like fibers that resist them becoming embedding deep into the wool. Just lightly brush the surface to remove dirt!
Who knew the toddler-proof fiber is wool?!
Wool fibers are made of keratin, which resists pulling and tearing and the fibers bend and twist without snapping. Did you know wool can bend 20,000 times before breaking, wheras cotton breaks at 3,000 bends.
ManyMonths wool is a slightly a higher mircon (fiber diameter) at 21.5, which makes it more durable than a base layer. The yarns are also twisted while being knit into fabric to naturally make it more resistant to felting, durable, and easier to wash without shrinkage.

Bettina, the Founder and Designer at ManyMonths® intentionally designs clothing that grows with children's developmental needs and growing bodies. Her background in education and developmental and social psychology led her to develop a size range that reflects each phase in a child’s physical, cognitive, and emotional development and how it affects their proportions, mobility needs, and functional details, not just measurements. Rest assured, the pieces have been tested and critiqued by parents for over 20 years!
Washing Your ManyMonths® Wool
Hand Washing *Recommended*
Hand wash in a bowl of lukewarm water with a small amount of wool soap by gently immersing the garment and allowing to sit for no more than 10 minutes. Gently fold the garment and press the water out (do not wring). Rinse in luke warm water and repeat the pressing. Press the garment in a towel and hang to dry. Alternatively, you may use the washing machine on a *spin only* cycle to remove the remaning water and reduce hang drying time.
Machine Washing
ManyMonths® is naturally durable enough to be machine washed on the wool cycle with wool soap with tap cool water. Hang to dry.
